I reproduce what you have promised at page 61 of your election manifesto.

Promise 27: Abolish oppressive laws

Malaysia’s legal system is frequently abused by the leaders of UMNO and Barisan Nasional to achieve their political interests. Some of these laws were inherited from the British colonial era without amendment to improve weaknesses. There are also tyrannical laws that were enacted by UMNO and Barisan Nasional.

The Pakatan Harapan Government will revoke the following laws:

  • Sedition Act 1948
  • Prevention of Crime Act 1959
  • Universities and University Colleges Act 1971
  • Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984
  • National Security Council Act 2016
  • Mandatory death by hanging in all Acts

The Pakatan Harapan Government will also abolish draconian provisions in the following Acts:

  • Penal Code 1997 especially on peaceful assembly and activities harmful to democracy
  • Communications and Multimedia Act 1998
  • Security Offences (special measures) Act 2012 (SOSMA)
  • Peaceful Assembly Act 2012
  • Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) 2015

To ensure an effective check and balance, the Pakatan Harapan Government will revoke all clauses that prevent the Court from reviewing decisions of the Government or the laws introduced by the Government.

Dr M has apparently said recently that, not expecting to win the 14th GE, you guys may have gone overboard on your promises.

I will take this to refer only to reforms that may require substantial financial resources, and not the removal of these draconian laws, and those laws that require amendment so that no injustice may be inflicted by their enforcement.

You missed the opportunity to honour this promise in the first sitting of parliament which commenced in July, at least in so far as the laws that were to be repealed are concerned.

Laws requiring amendment only might need more, time I will concede.

I just checked the parliament official website.

Parliament will be in session again starting 15th October, 2018, for 30 days.

Please get the minister in charge of law to announce that those laws to be repealed will, as you have promised, be dealt with during the next session.

You are now put on notice that if we, the Rakyat, are not notified that these laws will be dealt with as promised by you in the next session of parliament, I will be at Putrajaya, with whoever that cares enough to join me, to protest your breach of your promise to us.
