What is an “enforced disappearance?”
Should any country, even for reasons of “national security,” allow persons to be secretly kidnapped and subjected to secret detention, torture, or death?
Why is there an International Convention on the Protection of all Persons from Enforced Disappearance? What will happen if Malaysia ratifies the convention? What are the arguments for and against ratifying the convention?
Dr Mohd. Yazid bin Zul Kepli teaches law at the International Islamic University of Malaysia. As an expert on counter terrorism, he conducts training for locals and foreigners who are involved in combating terrorism. He is also author of a textbook on counter terrorism.
In this video, Dr Yazid addresses the question “How to prevent enforced disappearances in Malaysia?” It was recorded live during a Webinar on 29 August 2020 to mark the International Day of Victims of Enforced  Disappearances.
