Media Statement and Invitation

Malaysians have strong opinions and they are certainly not afraid to express them.

The local Internet community is abuzz lately with academic Dr Ridhuan Tee’s contentious statements in his article “Accused as criminals is better than being evil” which appeared in both his Mingguan Malaysia column and his blog on December 27th, 2009.

Responses from the Internet community have been varied. Some are firmly in support of Dr Tee’s assertions while others have slammed him for his views.

On Monday, lawyer Art Harun heightened ongoing arguments with a rebuttal - “An open reply to Dr Mohd Ridhuan Tee Abdullah” on his blog.

As a non-partisan people’s initiative, Saya Anak Bangsa Malaysia wishes to invite Dr Tee and Art Harun to an open debate. The aim is to encourage a spirit of sober and reasoned discussion on the subject in contention as well as to open up public space for diverse views to be expressed.

SABM proposes to hold the debate at a suitable venue and at a time appropriate for both writers and hopes they will agree to participate in what promises to be an exciting event.

The Internet of today is not the Internet of five years ago. There are dangers that simply didn't exist back in 2001, when Internet Explorer 6 was released to the world. Internet Explorer 7 makes surfing the web fundamentally safer by offering greater protection against viruses, spyware, and other online risks.
